"It"

Off in the fields
We played when young
Hide and seek
Swiftly on the run
Towards home base
We'd find our way
When we were kids
At home in East Bay.
When we were "it"
We'd seek to find
Various places
Children would hide,
In the barn
Or up a tree
Under the step
Or behind the canteen,
Behind the Blarney stone
Was another spot
That was used for hiding
Hoping not to get caught,
And while we were seeking
We might suddenly see
Kids run from everywhere
Trying to get free.
If we were skillful
And caught someone
There'd be a new "it"
And a new game begun.
