Hear The Life Instead

When your baby is fussing
and won't settle in bed
breath deeply, then pause
and hear the life instead.
Stop for a moment
and give thanks for the cry,
then cuddle him gently
and sing a lullaby.
Kiss his baby face
and whisper his name
and of course check his diaper
that may be wet again.
Then if he needs feeding
share this time of grace
as moments of loving
that you'll never replace.
For time does not wait
'til we're sure that we know
all the lessons that parents
learn as babies grow.
