THE GOUGH-DONCASTER
FAMILY

A Personal View

I Am Grateful

I am grateful for sunshine that woke me this morn

and grateful for God's love overflowing with warmth.

I'm grateful for my husband, my partner in life

and grateful for my blessings as mother and wife.

I'm grateful for family who light up my days

those who are near and those far away.

I'm grateful for family roots with faith true and strong,

and for God who has loved me my whole life long.

I'm grateful for clergy who've guided me towards

the pathway to peace that I've found in our Lord.

I'm grateful for teachers who've enhanced my mind

with a knowledge of the world and humankind.

I'm grateful for doctors and nurses too

who serve the sick hoping health is renewed.

I am grateful for people who have opened my eyes

to the value of life when ill health made me cry.

I'm grateful for everyone who enriches my life,

who dries my tears and shares my delights.

I'm grateful for music that soothes the soul

and brings joy to the world as seasons come and go.

I'm grateful for computers, email and the internet

that opened a window to new life and respect.

I'm grateful for Canada and the freedom I've shared

as I've lived and grown in the country air.

I'm grateful for challenges and the lessons I learn

as I search for answers and give hope in turn.

I'm grateful for people who have caused me pain,

'cause I've learned that forgiveness frees hearts to love again.

I'm grateful for so much...could a poem contain,

all the words I would need to make this plain?

I really don't think that a poem could,

yet I hope in some way you've understood,

that I'm grateful for writing and grateful for you...

so I'm sending you "SMILES" as I bid you adieu.
