Educated

I was making soup for supper
on a Tuesday afternoon
when I heard a tapping noise
coming from my living room.

Snow was steadily falling
covering everything in sight,
as I paused for a moment
taking in this day’s delight.

Then again I heard tapping
so I listened earnestly.
I found nothing evident
to reveal the source to me.

I waited in the stillness.
There was not another sound
'til I went to leave the room
so I quickly turned around.

I pulled up my window blind
and I saw there bright as day
perched two happy chickadees
playfully tapping away.

I was taken by surprise
I'm sure you will understand
and I stood there quite amazed
wondering if they had some plan.

Then next I heard more tapping
coming from our dining room
and that caused me to question,
"Could this be some kind of clue?"

Well then I checked their feeder
and I wonder if you've guessed,
they had finished their dinner.
Now they were my supper guests.

Educated chickadees
are certainly new to me!
But with this experience
I filled their feeder cordially.
