In his 1984 Centennial tribute to Carsonby United Church, Cedric McEwen recalls that early in the century a number of books were placed in the Sunday School library in memory of the late Superintendant, Thomas C. Craig [1860 - 1908]. On the flyleaf of each book was printed his favourite motto. In the present book about old buildings, it seems appropriate to revive the tradition, as a mark of respect for a less cynical age. The motto was:
| I expect to pass through this world but once, and
any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I
can show, let me do it now, for I shall not pass this way
