Personal Background

A resident of East Bay for over 33 years, Ivan has been serving people for most of his life. Besides serving his family and friends on a daliy basis, he has served others and in many of these areas, he continues to serve in the following capacities:

  • Currently the Cape Breton Regional Municipality’s representative on the Pitupaq Committee. The committee includes wardens and mayors from the various municipal units within Cape Breton Island and representatives from the five First Nation Bands. The Pitupaq Committee’s mandate is the protection and preservation of the Bras d’Or Lakes.
  • An Executive Director of the Atlantic Coastal Action Program.
  • An Executive Director and committee member of the Library Board of Nova Scotia.

    Volunteer Service

  • Established and assists with operation of weekly tarabish games at the East Bay Fire Hall originally for the benefit of community sports and the Volunteer Fire Department
  • Dedicated Coach with Minor Hockey for almost 40 years.
  • Founding member and active fireman with the East Bay Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years
  • A Director with the Spanish River Seniors
  • Appointed to the Board of Directors of the Sydney River Volunteer Fire Dept.
  • Appointed to the Board of Directors of the Howie Center Volunteer Fire Dept.
  • Fundraiser for various charities and community activities

    Past Community Involvement

  • Founding member of the Cape Breton Volunteer Recreation Association (forerunner of the Cape Breton County Recreation Department)
  • Enthusiastic Softball Coach and Umpire for over 30 years
  • President of the County Fastball League
  • Secretary-treasurer of the Charlie Maloney Fastball League
  • Recreation Director with the East Bay Area Community Council
  • Committee representative at SYSCO
  • Executive member of the St. Mary’s Parish Men’s Club
  • Leader with Cubs and Scouts
  • Girls Broomball Coach for East Bay School Team

    Ivan served as an active and trusted Municipal Councillor with the C B Co Council and now serves on the Cape Breton Regional Municipal Council, working with people for eighteen years of invaluable experience in public life.
