"When the Cape Breton Regional Municipality was originally formed in 1995,
the council adopted a number of wise strategic objectives and one of my
number one concerns is that we have drifted away from these objectives. I
want to impress upon council and the administration the importance of
reviewing the original plan for a community of communities, so that we can
get back on track to better serve the people we represent. We need to use
all resources available to us, particularly in technology, to help develop
a municipal government with an insightful vision. After all, we are
elected by the people to listen to their concerns and to ensure the
provision of public services that reflect the changing needs and means of
the community."
During this past term Ivan has worked on a number of important issues and
hopes he will have the opportunity to continue to represent residents as
councillor of District 11. Some of the issues Doncaster has addressed and
will continue to address are as follows: continous open communication
with the people he represents; improved communication between the
regional staff and councillors; encouraging protection of the Bras d’Or
Lakes; working with seniors and various other groups within his district;
addressing various health and environmental issues, such as sewage
treatment and a waste water management system. Doncaster also continues
to encourage paving of Route #4 and gravel roads, more sidewalks, curbs
and gutters, as well as reviewing the tax structure based on services
received and promoting job creation and tourism.
"I want to continue to offer honest representation and dedication to the
residents I represent and I feel the valuable experience I have gained
over
the past 15 years is a great asset. I am always open to hearing the
concerns of the people, either in person, by phone at 828-2272, by fax at
828-3210, or by email at ivan@doncaster.on.ca. I also have a web site to
help keep residents further informed when they have access to the
internet. The web address is: http://doncaster.on.ca/~ivan. I believe
we need to work co-operatively to enhance the future of the Cape Breton
Regional Municipality."
Throughout his campaign Doncaster plans to visit all the homes in District
11, as he continues listening to the concerns of residents.
Respectfully submitted, Committee to elect Ivan Doncaster
