Letter Re Sidewalks:

Dear Kevin,

I recently received a call from a Mr. Robert MacDonald, 1611 Kings road, Sydney River.

Mr. Mac Donald is concerned with how the capital money is being spent for projects in residential areas (sidewalks, curb, gutter etc.). He wonders, since we are a regional government, why isn’t there more capital money spent in the Sydney River area. Here there is a high volume of pedestrian traffic because of the number of churches, schools and recreation facilities.

Mr. Mac Donald gave examples of streets in the north end that have new sidewalks and curb (Amelia, Campbell and DesBarres Streets.), when there were already sidewalks in place here. He wondered if this was a necessary expense, in light of the fact that other areas of the regional municipality with a higher tax base have no sidewalks, curb or gutter.

Perhaps we should review our priorities, such as getting sidewalks where there are none at present, rather than replacing those we already have.

With respect,

Ivan Doncaster, Councillor District 14, CBRM
