Council discussed the issue for over three hours and Mr. Dewar concluded
from our discussions that there were three major points evident to
him.
We then discussed these issues at length and late in the afternoon
Councillor Mike White moved a motion to suspend discussions with the
facilitator. The motion was passed by a 12-10 vote. If this vote had
been defeated then council would have continued working with the
facilitator to look at the various options. I understand the frustration
of many residents with regard to this issue and I will continue to answer
your calls of concern.
Respectfully submitted,
Ivan Doncaster, Councillor District 14
Council is searching out more financial information from both CBRPS and
RCMP before they sit down and decide who will provide policing for the
Regional Municipality.
The Cumulative saving after five years was presented as follows:
The report states that while both the RCMP and CBRPS Option C meet the
CBRM police expenditure targets, Option C is a more expensive policing
model than the RCMP proposal, but would generate less disruption to the
existing communities of industrial Cape Breton.
I welcome the views of the reading audience on this issue.
Respectfully submitted,
Councillor Ivan Doncaster, District 14
