Steve's RC10GT Project

Starting from Sunday July 8, 2001, this site will chronicle my progress as I build my new Associated Factory Team Kit. Most of the parts came from Great Hobbies, the best hobby store in Canada.

Day 2  >>>

Day 1...

Front-End Assembly:

It's not much to look at right now, but just you wait! Nice view of the servo saver stuff.
Ariel view of servo saver and front suspension arms. Too bad the nose brace tubes can't be inserted while those bulkheads are attached. Box O' Parts ...Each bag within, tagged "A" thru "P" (15 bags), is loaded with parts.

Tools and other parts:

Bowles O' Tools ...See bag "B" over there? It's empty; yay! Another milestone is reached. When bag "O" is empty, the truck will be ready to run. A closer view of the tools. Careful, that knife is sharp!
Stacks O' Tires ...And there's even more tires on order. Maybe I have a small tire fetish. Then again, they do resemble donuts... A blurry image of the radio gear: A Futaba 3PJFS transmitter, FM receiver, and two S9402 servos.

Day 1 Summary:

A power outage in my neighborhood concluded my day's work at page six of the instruction manual. The engine is on backorder, so I can't display an image of it today. However, this link should give you a pretty good idea of what I'll be getting.

Flaws Found In The Manual:

  • Page 6 - Bag B - Step 2 - Sub-Step 3: Part 7260 points to the wrong hole in the front shock tower.
  • Page 7 - Bag B - Step 6 - Sub-Step 1: Nose brace tubes (#7315) can not be put in place while nose tube mounts (#7314) are attached to the chassis.

Blunders:

One E-clip (#6299) disappeared while I was installing the front hinge pins. Doh!  :-(

Lessons Learned:

  • Don't waste so much time taking pictures and tweaking the web page. Focus on building the vehicle!
  • Some parts are so small, an electron microscope would be a practical tool for handling and installing them. Small parts shouldn't be left lying around while your attention is diverted. Secure the "micro-parts" first; like, to a big powerful magnet; before turning away from them.
