A: Cancel your Sympatico service, and enter the cancellation number you get
from Sympatico in
our signup form.

Q: I am having trouble reaching some websites, but not all of
them? Any ideas?
A: Check the MaxMTU settings on your PC.
MaxMTU should be set to 1452 or lower for best results.
A small windows utility can be obtained here which will
allow you to modify the setting without hacking your Registry.
Q: How can I pay for the service?
A: Upon signup you will be invoiced for setup and last month of service.
Service will not be activated until this invoice is paid.
You will be issued your monthly invoices by email based upon your activation date.
Payment can be made by credit card, cheque, or online bank payment at BMO, BNS, RBC, CIBC & TD (search for IStop.com).
Q: Do you supply PPPoE software for Macintosh (BeOS,
PDP/11, etc.)?
A: No, we only support Windows
and Linux.
MacOS X and Windows XP have built in PPPoE Support, Mac users should
contact Apple in regards to support for PPPoE. PPPoE software does exist for MacOS 9 and below.
Q: How long do I wait until my service is activated?
A: 5 business days from when you pay your initial invoice for the service.
Q: How will I know if I've passed the 30GB monthly limit?
A: Your monthly invoice will indicate your bandwidth usage.
You can also check usage up to your last PPPoE session.
Most of our customers use less than 10GB per month, so few customers need be concerned with exceeding 30GB.
Q: How can I test my download speed?
We recommend this speed test.
Q: Is the service the same as Bell HSE?
A: The connection to your home is the same but access to the internet is
through our own network.
Q: How many phone filters are provided?
A: One is provided complimentary with the purchase or rental of a modem. We sell extra filters for $3 each. The best setup is to install a splitter in your house demarc jack, put the filter in one side, and plug your inside voice wiring into the filter. In the other (unfiltered) side of the splitter plug in your modem (or a phone wire that goes to a jack in the room where you plug in your modem).
Q: Can I run my own servers?
A: Yes, unlike HSE and Rogers, you're free to run servers. We do
not block any ports or IP protocols.
We may temporarily block or redirect ports for network performance or security reasons.
We STRONGLY advise against running servers on Windows unless you
consider yourself an expert on Windows security.
